Want to Learn Greek Dance?

Join us to learn authentic traditional dances from all regions of Greece. We teach both beginning and more-experienced dancers. A broad variety of dances are learned and afford opportunities for taking part in the group's performances at the church festivals, fundraisers, and other cultural celebrations.

When are Practices?
Practices are held on Sunday evenings at one of the area Greek Orthodox churches in the area: either St. Mary's Greek Orthodox Church, in Minneapolis near Lake Calhoun; or St. George Greek Orthodox Church, in St. Paul on Summit Avenue. Practice times and location are determined by agreement of the dancers. See the "Calendar" for the schedule of practices and performance events.

What do we learn?
Over 50 dances have been learned during the 15+ years that the group has been organized. Of course, members are not expected to perform this substantial number during the course of a performing year. Some dances have become favorites of the dancers and audiences, and can be performed by the less-experienced and enjoyed by the more-experienced dancers. The group is introduced to new dances which keep all members challenged and progressing, including the more-experienced and less-experienced.

Dances are learned from various regions of Greece. Preparation for a scheduled performance involves instruction and practice so that the performers can feel confident and enjoy the performance.

Authentic costumes are worn during all dance performances. (Click here to see some of the Authentic Costumes used and learn of their historical significance to the Greek culture.)
